As there are very few bears on Mt Desert Island I decided it was safe to go hiking today.

Unfortunately Mark was not well today so it was a day on my own.
The weather was mixed with clouds coming and going, threatening at times and clear skies at others.
The winds however were quite strong all day and the leaves are being stripped from the trees.

The colours when they are caught by the light are as strong as ever

but there is a general “brownness” beginning to cover everything.alt

There are numerous hiking trails all over the island of various degrees of difficulty but I do not have any decent maps so it’s a matter of picking one and setting out.
I have my camera with me and whatever looks remotely interesting gets at least one shot.

This is actually a lake but is so covered with rushes it’s hard to tell.  I think it’s the rhythmic movement which attracts my interest but it’s almost impossible to show that in a single frame.

The light through the trees is quite vivid

And the streams are floating carpets of colour

I meet a few people on the way and manage a few interesting conversations and not to get lost, altogether a pleasant day.
When I return Mark is recovered enough to suggest Chinese for dinner so I guess he is improving rapidly.
Tomorrow we move back to the mainland to a town called Jackson, but a different one to the Jackson we visited before...
