Something for you something for me.

There are a couple of things in this area which we haven’t had a look at yet because each appeals more to one of us than the other but this morning we are in agreement and decide we will visit both as they are in the same general direction.
There are of course another half dozen covered bridges along the way
But I won’t bore you with them all.
The place I am interested in is the American Precision Museum where there are a lot of old machines used around civil war times to manufacture guns from standardised parts made with standardised processes. Unfortunately the museum lives up to neither its’ entry price or reputation. The most interesting parts are a series of model cases stuck in the corner showing miniature production machines. They are exquisitely detailed and should have pride of place but unfortunately the display lacks any information about them.
We decide to move on to Mark’s area of interest but I can’t resist a pumpkin shot on the way.
The whole area is full of them at the moment as everyone gears up for Halloween. Unfortunately I think the best of them have gone but there are still a few around.
Our next stop is at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science which is a raptor hospital and rehabilitation centre. Even for me it is quite interesting with at least two of each of the great raptors. These are the birds which have been too badly injured to be released back into the wild so they remain here for study purposes.

This is my favourite the Peregrine Falcon. It’s not nearly as big as say a Bald Eagle or a Golden Eagle but it has the most reinforced cage I have seen in a long time. These birds can reach speeds of 350kph in a dive prior to striking their prey.

The Red Hawk is also impressive as are the other 20 or so birds I will not bore you with. Surprisingly a couple of hours has soon gone by and it is time to head of back to Ludlow.
Past of course the inevitable covered bridge, although this one is not so covered and half of it is missing s it is being repaired. It shows just how much effort goes into preserving these bridges.
Nearby we also find a more modern example and can’t resist a few abstract shots of the structure in the afternoon light.

And alongside the access path provides a last reminder of the autumn colours.
