Sunrise at 6am means you have to get up at 5am even if it’s -10degC.
This time it looks like we may have picked the wrong point. I won’t say anything about the weather ...

I have been looking at the postcards and photos being sold in the souvenir shops and am starting to believe that either we are a little better than I thought or everyone else is not quite as good as I thought.
The harsh sun however is soon again over the horizon so it’s back for breakfast and a walk up along the Rim Trail to the other lodges. Where there are no handrails I have to walk on the far edge of the path and where there are handrails I have to reach out and grab them as I ease slowly up to the edge. It is getting a bit silly as I seem to have had a strange change of perspective and I can no longer judge how far or high the canyon walls are from me. Doesn’t stop me being scared but I can at least look out without risking heart failure.
We decide on a slow day and take a bus tour out the westward end of the canyon which is closed to other vehicles. There are about 8 stops where you can get on or off the shuttle and wait for another for about 25 minutes, which is just long enough to walk out and have a look around and then come back for the next bus. At the end stop there is “The Abyss” which is probably the most expansive view of the canyon you can get.

Unfortunately evening is cloudless again so we opt for dinner rather than an evening shoot at 0 degC.
We have cancelled the train to Los Angeles for tomorrow and will drive the car down as it gives us more flexibility. This will be our last day purely sightseeing and the following day will be getting to the airport, handing the car in, going through all the airport security etc.
It seems like only yesterday we were doing it going the other way.
