Well … today is moving day …

It’s time to give Digby and Rosemary a break and for me to move to my new accommodation in Otterburn Cottage, Lower Breakish.

The morning is spent collecting all my things which seem to have gradually spread all over the place, making a trip to the local community hall for our daily wi-fi fix and then heading out.

We travel first to Waternish where there is one of the last two tanneries for sheepskin left in the UK. We are given the guided tour of the tannery which still uses the traditional original hundred plus year old equipment and most processes are carried out by hand. There are some lovely products on sale but the problems of bringing anything back and the horrendous prices ensure I leave empty handed apart from a small chamois windscreen cleaner. I need this as there seems to be some noxious coating on the inside of the windscreen which needs regular wiping off. I am promised that this the perfect solution and at GBP2.50 I can afford to try it.

We are advised there is an interesting ruin a little way up the road so decide to detour for a quick “look-see”. It is the typical graveyard / derelict church (read barely visible ruins). But there are a few details left which seem to beg for black and white photos.

We venture on to Stein where there is a pub which Digby and Rosemary have visited before and they assure me a delicious lunch is guaranteed. My lunch is OK but the coffee machine is broken and apparently it is impossible to heat milk for coffee without a dedicated machine. Rosemary’s lunch is missing a vital ingredient and when she enquires as to its whereabouts is informed “We ran out!”!  Digby is happy as they have Skye Black beer!

After lunch it is time for us to head our separate ways … Digby and Rosemary to Glendale and me to Lower Breakish. I travel through the same area as when I first went to Glendale but this time instead of just hints of hills in the distance today I can actually see them.

I arrive in Lower Breakish and as usual with the GPS in this part of the world it leads me to the wrong address. I still don’t understand what is different from my last visit to UK when it seemed to work perfectly but apparently Skye is notorious for GPS inaccuracy. A few enquiries of very helpful passers by and I am soon at the right location. The owners seem very helpful and most obliging.

The cottage is immaculate and can only have been used a very few times as everything in it seems brand new. I suspect this one has been purpose built for rental accommodation. Everything is electric and has all mod-cons … dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washer, dryer, wi-fi, iPod docking stations, etc., etc. …

It overlooks a tidal bay on the coastline and has an interesting view to the hills.

I think I will be quite comfortable here.
